The band has combined the essential elements - catchy melodies, a dark mystique and an exhilarating live show - of today’s and yesterday’s greatest bands to form a sound that Trent Brough, singer and guitarist, said is needed in the Central Texas area. “Our intent is to take the strongest characteristics of the bands we love, the things that make them great, and combine all of that into our band.” Brough said. “I think doing that, along with adding some new ideas, has made us stand out among a lot of Austin bands, and will allow us to go even further.” Brough, Ryan Coggin (guitar) and Buck Lisles (bass), all three former members of Austin rock band Mantic, combined in early 2004 with Matt Adrian (guitar) and Michael Kelton (drums) to form Truth For Leo. Kelton, an Austin native whose father plays bass for texas legends Johnny Dee & The Rocket 88's, said he expects Truth For Leo's high-energy live performances to make a mark on the Texas music scene. “When we get together on stage, we can’t be stopped,” Kelton said. “We’ve put together a great band with a great live show and album that will hopefully fill a void that’s missing among the hundreds of bands in the area.” The band has spent time in both Nashville and Austin writing and recording songs for an upcoming full-length album. In the meantime, they have opened for national acts such as Dishwalla, Edgewater, Dan Dyer, Pushmonkey and Vallejo. “So far, we’ve had an amazing run with this band,” said Brough. “We took everything we’ve learned from our experiences in former bands, and have used that to make Truth For Leo something that I think will have a positive impact on us and our fans."

Show #50

What the fuck? Just a few short months later, she was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition, made her network television debut on the Late show with David Letterman, and was followed around by a camera crew from CNN for a prime-time profile. She was soon opening for artists such as Shawn Colvin & Joan Osborne and had her song, "The Tower," used in the NBC prime-time series "Ed." Her days are now filled with interviews and sold-out performances. Needless to say, it has been an abrupt shift from her cubicle days.

But in truth, the jump from code warrior to full-time musician had been a long time coming. Vienna began taking piano lessons at age 5, studying classical composers like Bach and Chopin. Far from being pressured into studying music, however, Vienna asked for piano lessons on her own. While she delved fully into classical works, leading her to even take on the name of Vienna after the Austrian city of composers, she was drawn more to the act of improvisation, and in expressing the ideas that were emerging in her own imagination. She wrote her first song at age 6, and had an album’s worth of instrumentals composed by age 16.

The evolution from hobby to full-time job happened gradually, as an appreciative audience began forming around the music she created while attending Stanford University, where she graduated in 2000 with a degree in Computer Science. "I realized how much my songs could affect people - that they had some value. People wanted to hear them and wanted to make them a part of their lives." Her first "concerts" were impromptu events, consisting of curious students gathering around the dorm lounge piano as she played and sang. They started to recognize her songs - and to request them. Bootleg tapes and MP3s of rough recordings circulated around campus. People started asking when the CD was coming out, which led Vienna to record Waking Hour when she wasn’t attending class or studying.

With her graceful melodies and evocative lyrics, Vienna, 26, has garnered critical acclaim and a rapidly growing legion of fans throughout the world. Vienna returned in 2004 with her stunning sophomore release, Warm Strangers. The album is a diverse collection of lush, melodic songs, incorporating Vienna's classical background and folk sensibilities within a contemporary pop framework. The album was produced by David Henry (REM, Cowboy Junkies, Josh Rouse) and mixed by Roger Moutenot (Guster, Joseph Arthur). Whereas Waking Hour, written during the high school and college years, was mostly autobiographical, Warm Strangers marks Vienna's bold leap into fiction. Orchestral and acoustic landscapes, using everything from string quartets to slide guitars, provide an inviting sonic backdrop for her short stories of love, death, struggle and hope. In describing Warm Strangers, Vienna notes, "We pass through each other's lives so briefly that it's easy to think of the people around us as mere objects, cold and removed. Writing songs is my way of breathing warmth into them. Attempting to tell their stories, however fictitious the results, reminds me of our common humanity."

2004 highlights include: performances on the CBS Early Show, NPR Weekend Edition, & The Wayne Brady Show; having Warm Strangers land on 3 Billboard album charts and rise as high as #2 on Amazon.com's Best-Seller List; and opening for such artists as Joan Baez, Patty Griffin, & the Indigo Girls.

Show #49

Blah, blah, blah!!!
One click subscription

Third Hill My Asylum
The Architects Dear Life
The Day I Snapped Best Of Times
Pillar Of Autumn New Beginning
Better Luck Next Time Motionless
Slim Void Goodbye

Featured Artist of the day
Smack Pimp Livin
Smack is a former Strip club DJ from Chicago. The debut solo-effort from singer-songwriter Randy Coleman titled “Last Salutation” captures the history of a life that is continually being written and re-written. And so the story goes: Randy Coleman almost never came to be. While his mother, Jean, was shooting a television show in Mexico, and coincidentally pregnant with Randy, she was accidentally injured during filming and began to lose her unborn child. Going against Mexican federal law, she refused to terminate the pregnancy. And with that, she saved Randy’s life. Growing up in the Coleman house the family bonded through an unbridled passion and love of music. Dad was a melody man and Mom, a lover of lyrics. On any given day, you would hear such great and diverse artists such as Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Willie Nelson, and John Denver. Thus began the education of Randy Coleman. In a home filled with an endless stream of amazing music Randy recognized, at a very young age, a great song when he heard it. It moved him; it breathed life into his soul, and before he even knew it was obvious where he was headed. One of the many turning points in Randy’s life came at the age of 13 when his parents divorced. His life being suddenly shaken, Randy sought and found an outlet in the drums, albeit briefly. Being true to his Aries nature, he quickly realized he needed to be out in front. So he picked up a guitar and his therapy began. Armed with nothing more than a second-hand acoustic guitar, a Beatles songbook, and unrelenting ambition, Randy practiced and learned every song in that book. As Randy states,”Looking back, it really helped me get through a very tough and confusing time in my life. Whenever I’m asked how I learned how to play, I tell them 2 guys from Liverpool, John and Paul, taught me.” Turning point number 2 came from the speakers of his sisters’ stereo. While blasting Queen’s epic “News of the World” record, Randy’s ears were assaulted with the unheard of vocals of Freddie Mercury and virtuoso guitar playing of Brian May. The songs weren’t bad either. From that point, it was game on! Randy immediately immersed himself in the music of Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, CCR, and Cheap Trick, (“Robin Zander, the most underrated singer in rock-n-roll”, Randy has said.) With his interest in such diverse artists driving him forward, he happened upon the poetic lyrics and the hi-lonesome sound of Hank Williams. “Hank is one of the few artists I can listen to anytime, no matter what mood I’m in. His voice and lyrics were so pure; you could hear the heartbreak, the struggle, the resolve of his life in every word he sang.” One more step toward defining who Randy Coleman would eventually become. In school, Randy was the kid who was good at just about everything that had nothing to do with school itself. Randy got the bug to follow in his fathers’, Dabney Coleman’s, footsteps and study acting. True to form, Randy jumped in head first, quickly earning a MFA from Cal Arts. Ironically, this marked another turning point in his career as a singer/songwriter. “Cal Arts is where I found my voice”. Immediately after graduation, Randy formed the critically acclaimed, Zoo Story, and shortly thereafter, signed a record deal with the independent label, Vagrant Records. From there, the record was picked up by a Universal Music Group offshoot label called 333. Sounds great, but here’s the downside: as has happened countless times in the music business, 333 shuts its doors and Zoo Story is left without a home for their music. But the upside was he got his 1st taste of the big time, of signing a deal, making a record, blah, blah, blah. And, one of the songs on the record, “Star” was featured in the Kevin Costner film, Dragonfly. Soon after, the band went their separate ways. Discouraged yet driven, Randy decided to continue writing and gigging as a solo artist, enlisting Zoo Story guitar player, Carlos Rivera, to help him realize his destiny. He signed with legendary manager Doc McGhee, (Kiss-BonJovi-Motley Crue, Bob Schneider, etc.) and met Skid Row guitarist Snake Sabo. It was suggested that Randy and Snake should work together on some of Randy’s music and see what happens. According to Snake, it wasn’t work at all. “Working with Randy was the easiest project I have ever been a part of. Every song he played, I loved. When we got in the studio, my job was to basically just press the record button and stop buttons. That’s pretty much all the work the songs needed”. Together they recorded an acoustic CD titled “The Snake Sessions” which got the ball rolling for Randy. From there, the CD fell in the hands of producer/songwriter Guy Erez who quickly came on board to produce Randy’s first solo effort entitled, “Last Salutation”. Utilizing all of his influences yet somehow making them his own, Randy manages to defy convention through sweeping melodies and soaring choruses, constantly avoiding the obvious, taking the listener down a road less traveled. “Last Salutation” is a statement from a unique and original artist who continually defines and redefines himself in the face of the cookie-cutter mentality that defines the present day music business. Last Salutation is the 1st in a long line of things to come. Randy Coleman was the opening act on the Bryan Adams/Def Leppard tour. The tour started June 1st in Portland, OR and continued throughout the summer visiting 26 major cities across the United States. Also, “Hey God”, a track from Randy’s debut CD, was featured on the cd “Music Inspired by the film Crash” released on June 7th through Superb/Koch Records. “Crash” starring Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, and Sandra Bullock, remained in the top 5 highest-grossing films for many weeks following it’s release on May 6th.

Show #47 Family is useless

Have you ever noticed how much family blows? Joe. Not much has changed.” This remark typifies the lightheartedness and humor that Syd constantly carries - on and off the stage. On a more serious note, Syd later reveals that his influences range from Ani Difranco to Pearl Jam and Metallica to Dashboard Confessional. At 22 years old, the acoustic pop/rock musician has cultivated a dedicated fan base almost entirely due to touring and the Internet, as verified by the near 600,000 plays received on Mp3.com before the site closed its doors. Listeners are engaged by Syd’s catchy guitar work, resonant vocals, and passionate lyrics. Syd began playing music at 12 years old in his native state of Vermont. “My dad played the drums and the guitar, my mom sang, and my step-dad was a radio DJ and played the piano. I was doomed from day one,” recalls Syd. It was actually drums, not the guitar, which Syd picked up as his first instrument. Though Syd played the guitar and wrote from time to time, being the drummer in several bands at a time overshadowed everything else. Syd attributes his transition from drummer to singing and playing guitar to one distinct incident: “One night I was filling for a drummer at a punk show and one of the bands didn't show. There were at least 150 people in the crowd. The guy who put on the event was freaking out. I said, ‘I've got a couple of songs I could sing.’ I grabbed some crappy acoustic guitar, sat down on stage in front of the crowd and started playing. People actually applauded. I remember getting off the stage to people asking when I was playing my next show. For the first time, I thought I might have something to work with.” With this encouragement, Syd put the drums aside to focus on songwriting and performing. In Boston during his second year at Emerson College, Syd put together his debut album Week Days Weak Knees with a local drummer and producer. Syd was only 19 years old at the time. Week Days Weak Knees instantly received exceptional reviews and impressive sales on Internet sites including Mp3.com, CDBaby.com, and Amazon.com. In January of 2004 Syd flew out to Ojai, California and teamed up with a producer duo that has worked with acts from Jack Johnson to Supertramp to begin work on what would become Fault Lines. Reunited with his long-time musical partner Tuck Stocking and aided by the multi-instrumental talent of Jesse Seibenberg, Syd set out to create a more full, vibrant sound. This time around the songs they were working with demanded a different approach. “I can barely remember the first time Tuck and I sat down and played together back in the day. We must have been 12 or 13. What we played then was heavier, louder and more aggressive than anything that was in my Week Days repertoire. So when we started working together again in 2003 I began to return to those roots a little just by virtue of being around him and the songs I was writing reflected that. A song like “The Bottom” or “This Is What I Get” reflects that grit most noticeably, but it’s there on all the tunes.” Also evident on Fault Lines is the influence of the pair’s first season of heavy touring, a subject Syd tackles masterfully in the album’s haunting close “Back Home.” Syd is about to hit the road again. This time Syd’s college tour will be complimented by a number of club performances across much of the Eastern US and Midwest with singer-songwriter Gregory Douglass (also a Vermont native). Guitarist Tuck Stocking and bassist Dylan Allen (who also directed the 16mm music video for “The Bottom”) will join Syd on the road and fuel the show with a rocking three-part harmony. The trio will make stops at college campuses, clubs and festivals. “Every year the shows get a little bigger. We bring in more kids who have heard of us from a friend of a friend and we reach that much further from our little circle in Boston and Vermont. I recently got a call from Ann Arbor, MI from a college buddy freaking out because Fault Lines was playing over the PA at a tan

Show #46 Rehab Sucks!!!!!!!!

Feels great to be out Again. I did some recording in the 80's but it was just to pass the time. The first half of the 90's I hardly wrote a thing, but since about '96 something clicked and songs started coming out again. I don't write quickly so I've only got about 40 songs in fifteen years, but I do spend a lot of time rewriting until each song says what I intended. However, nothing ever sounds as good as I hear it in my head. I don't wanna be a rock star, don't wanna be famous, just like writing songs.

But sometimes those songs won't stay in the drawer. These ten songs are picked from different times in my writing life, different cities, different friends. I locked myself away for a few months and re-recorded most of them, re-mixed others, and finally, after all these years, produced an album. I really hope you like it.

Show #44 Holy shit, i'm lost in the haze again

Hey kids. This new band retains a familiar sound yet still has enough of their own style that is bursting with energy and emotion. Their mission is to create music that they like and share it with as many people as possible. 12 Gauge Fuse is not looking for fans to worship them, the goal is to build an extended family that all enjoy the same vibe. They know the common thread that runs through the band also runs through the listener. That connection is not an artist/fan connection. It is a connection about the music and approach that 12 Gauge Fuse and the listeners are both fans of.

Formed in Portland Oregon in March of 2005. This band is a www.craigslist.com success story. The internet was key in bringing together members that were geographically separated. With influences that range from Alice in Chains, Chris Cornel, Crossfade, Metallica, Mudvayne, Nirvana, Primus, Shine Down to AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Lynard Skynard, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughn and various blues, funk and jazz artists, there is a large enough pool to draw from for a solid foundation. 12 Gauge Fuse is a band that never wants to “arrive”, the idea is to constantly better their sound and technique.

Show #43 Breaking the law just for you!

Alright kids, let me just start by saying that show 42 was a complete disaster and i apologize. That thing is sweet, and I paid for it with my own money and i didnt even have to show anyone my tits. Today's Featured Artist is The Telegenic Enjoy the show kids.
One click subscription

Powervibe Burn It Down
The Human Project Back to Memphis
James Guffee Come Back To Me
Brother Big Bad 14 Days
Jen August Beautiful
Greg Coleman Dawn of a New Day
Featured Artist of the Day
The Telegenic Turn On (the radio)
The Telegenic is Tom Petty in a drunken fist fight with Bruce Springsteen at a party thrown by The Clash where the News is on the TV full blast but no one sees it because everyone is watching the fight.

The Telegenic as such became a band in 1999, but Heath and Etz have been playing in bands together since high school and this is the core and foundation of The Telegenic's identity. In fact the musical relationship of Heath and Etz predates their ability to play any instruments at all. Heath and Etz decided to start a band because they felt a need to convey something. And then they started playing guitar and drums.

Etz and Heath played in several different groups over the years, recording two independent records, the latter of which contained tracks produced by Dennis Herring (Counting Crowes, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, etc), and mixed by Nick Didia (Pearl Jam, STP, Bruce Springsteen, etc). Around this time, Etz met Matt Johnson while they were playing in a side project together with Tom Morello (Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine) and asked Johnson to play guitar on a few songs that he and Heath were recording. The chemistry between the three was instantaneous and shortly thereafter The Telegenic was formed. Adding Scot Falkenstien on Bass, Jason Federici (Son of Danny Federici, ... the E Street Band) on Organ and Tiffany Hamilton on Back up Vocals, The Telegenic was complete.

Telegenic's approach to songwriting assumes that the band itself lies exactly in the middle of the greater rock timeline and it takes a sudden but penetrating glance in both directions every time it writes a note. When the group plays one of their songs you can hear them looking all the way back to Elvis and asking, "Ok, what have we learned?" and looking forward asking, "Where will we take this?" This timelessness of their music complements the universality of Heath’s lyrics. They reflect each other perfectly. The Telegenic is rocks synthesis springing forward. The Telegenic is a rock multivitamin. It is the Rosetta Rock.

The Telegenic is the type of rock that comes through the car stereo and turns itself up. It is the rock that plunges you into the explosion of life, where you can feel the flames, but endure them.

Show #38

I'm so poor i cant take it. And yet that has been the experience of the Great Unknowns, a band that has managed to spread what it calls "rock music for the open road" with a decidedly low-profile approach. Each of the Great Unknowns has been in bands that followed the rules of self-promotion, hawking enough CDs and extracting enough email addresses to earn spots on bills with artists ranging from Primus to the Verve Pipe to the Black Eyed Peas. But, as their name suggests, the Unknowns came together to pursue a different agenda, putting less emphasis on getting a following and more on following their musical passion. Despite their best efforts to remain anonymous, they have attracted significant attention -- first, top recognition on the internet site GarageBand.com, and now a distribution deal with Daemon Records. Their debut album Presenting the Great Unknowns, a set of country-tinged rock songs described by Indigo Girl Amy Ray as "one of the best things I have heard this year," will be released December 7.

Becky Warren, who fronts the band, wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album. She hails from the American South, and she's proud of it, in a low-key way. Transplanted to Boston, she wrote songs and released an album with a band called North House, winning second place in a national battle of the bands sponsored by the indie music site IUMA.com and webcast at RollingStone.com. But the album never took off, and North House disintegrated.

Warren continued to write and perform, though, seeking inspiration on roadtrips to the heartland and in recordings by heroes like Lucinda Williams and Patty Griffin. She found a like-minded collaborator in Mike Palmer, a member of power-pop quintet Invisible Downtown. Drawing on their shared roots in southern rock and affinity for songs about leaving, the pair began swapping song ideas. They began performing the material occasionally, backed by North House alums Andy Eggers on drums and Altay Guvench on bass. The band's shows were heartfelt and passionate, refreshingly free of pleas to join mailing lists and visit websites. Once Warren and Palmer had assembled ten songs they were proud of, the band spent a few days recording them in a dingy, dormitory-basement studio, with bassist Guvench handling the recording controls. They were pleased with the result, and were happy to watch a number of tracks ascend the Folk/Country charts of GarageBand.com. But no one, least of all the Unknowns, expected the album to become anything more than a memento of a their youthful aspirations.

And that would probably have been the end of it, if singer-songwriter Rose Polenzani (who sings harmony on the last track of Presenting) hadn't played the record for some friends at her record label. A week later, guitarist Palmer was astonished to receive a phone call from Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls saying she wanted to put out the Great Unknowns record. Ray, the founder and president of Daemon Records, explains, "It's really excellent songwriting in the Americana tradition. The band jokingly says they made the record for their grandmothers, but everyone should check it out."

Show #37 The hung over podcast

SHHH!! His fifth album, Harry Truman Built A Road is remarkable proof of his depth of creativity. Produced by Richard McLaurin and Mack Linebaugh, the album includes appearances by Byron House, Brothers Henry and Daniel Tashian. This powerful set of 13 original tracks, including "Bony Man" a tribute penned for the late Townes Van Zandt, showcases Cooper’s compelling writing style and firmly establishes him as one of the most passionate performers in contemporary music.

Originally from Independence, Missouri, Cooper was playing his own music in Kansas City clubs by the age of 16. After dropping out of college and leaving behind an art scholarship, he headed for Los Angeles. In 1973, Elektra records released his self-titled debut solo album featuring luminary players Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Jim Horn. Cooper later moved to Texas in 1978 to join forces with long time friend Shake Russell. Their collaborations produced five highly successful folk-rock albums, including one on MCA in 1981. The two became one of the most successful acts throughout Texas and the Southwest and appeared together on Austin City Limits.

In 1992, Cooper released his first independent solo album, Stone By Stone. The album opened the door to a wider variety of audiences including alternative and public radio. In 1997, Cooper released the critically acclaimed album, Miracle Mile on Compass Records. The album was nominated for a Nashville Music Award as "Best Pop Album."

As a solo artist Cooper has been named "Best Songwriter in Houston," and he was also nominated for the Kerrville Folk Festival’s "Male Vocalist of the Year Award." An accomplished writer, several of Cooper’s songs have been recorded by other popular artists, such as Maura O'Connell, Trout Fishing In America, Susan Werner, Jonell Moser and Christine Albert.

With the passion of a poet and the power of a rocker, Dana Cooper has been thrilling listeners for over two decades. His highly original lyrics, skillful guitar work and evocative vocals have earned him a devoted following with fans and critics alike.

Vic Garbarini, writer for Playboy and Guitar World, described Cooper as "literally the best singer/songwriter to emerge from Nashville in over a decade… His heartfelt but sophisticated lyrics aim to reconcile the heart and mind in everyday life. His sense of melody is unique and he has a voice that could melt icecaps."

Show #35 This one's for you Dad

Alright kids, Time for another show but first some sad news to deliver. The combination of imaginative, enthralling music and image filled lyrics soon found favour amongst their expanding fan base and journalists who had tired of some of the more formulaic music that dogged the live scene of the time. Several sold out nights at the legendary Marquee club forced the record labels to recognise the impact of their music and a deal with EMI was quickly signed.
The release of such classic albums as ‘Script For A Jester’s Tear’ (1983) and Fugazi (1984) bolstered their reputation, and their line up was further strengthened when drummer Ian Mosley replaced Pointer in 1984. ‘Misplaced Childhood’ followed in 1985 (which included the hit singles ‘Kayleigh’ and ‘Lavender’) and promptly hit the coveted number one slot. But, following the tour to support 1987's ‘Clutching At Straws’, Fish suddenly and unexpectedly quit the band to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by the equally imposing figure of Steve Hogarth whose input helped to freshen and augment their sound.
The resulting albums of ‘Season’s End’ (1989), ‘Holidays In Eden’ (1991), ‘Brave’ (1994) ‘Afraid Of Sunlight’ (1995), ‘This Strange Engine’ (1997) and ‘Radiation’ (1998) proved Marillion’s continued determination to release inventive and emotional music, irrespective of whether their music was picked up by radio stations or made an impact on the charts.
By 1997, Marillion had realised that the Internet provided an ideal opportunity to nurture a closer contact with the fans, and a fan instigated whip round on their e-mailing list produced enough funds to allow the band to tour the USA. The release of the album ‘Marillion.com’ in 1999 flagged their newly launched web-site and record label but it was the revolutionary concept of asking their fans to pre-order and pay for the recording costs an album some 12 months in advance of its release that hit the headlines in 2001. Astonishingly, over 12,000 of their fans pre-ordered and an additional deal was struck with EMI to market the resulting ‘Anoraknophobia’ album. A similar campaign was also launched to fund the band’s latest release, ‘Marbles’ but this time all the money raised is going into a campaign fund to promote the album. In terms of fan loyalty, it can be said that Marillion have an international underground following to rival the mainstream
Their new album ‘Marbles’ (released May 2004) is a CD packed full of atmospheric and stirring songs. Intense, deep-seated and musically rewarding - you'll either "get it" or you won't!
'There are a million bands who kick ass, but just a few, like Marillion,
who really move people' - Kerrang
'The best-kept secret in the music industry' - Sound on Sound
'Highly dramatic, emotional, dynamic stuff' - The Guardian

Show #34

Holy shit!! Biography: Founded by singer-songwriter Anthony Bautovich from trans-Pacific pop ensemble The Orange Humble Band, and surrounded by some of Sydney's finest players, The Forresters debut release 'Skindeep' spans the musical spectrum from power pop to blues tinged soul, alt.country to straight ahead rock'n'roll. Nick Kennedy (The Cops, Knievel) on drums and Steve Balbi (Noiseworks) on bass provide a rich and powerful canvas on which textures faithful to a traditional music form yet original in their use have been absorbed. Matt Galvin (Eva Trout) chimes in with some sublime power pop guitar work. Cameron Bruce (The Polaroids) on piano and organ augments the guitars with some heartfelt tinkling. Melbourne based guitarist Charlie Owen's (Dark Horses,New Christs) raw boned yet beautiful dobro playing and blistering electrics are a highlight. With tender melodies, wonderful chord progressions, and a command of a particular sound, The Forresters surrender to these intricately crafted and emotionally honest songs, leaving the listener with a warm and satisfying glow. There is a timeless essence to the sound of this record and on first listen one might get the feeling that they have stumbled across a lost 70's country pop gem. Laden with hooks and harmonies that often reach Byrdsian proportions, 'Skindeep' is filled with songs that not only grab a hold of you but refuse to let you go.

Show #33

Rainy weekend with nothing to do. Gathering inspiration from something as simple as the rhythm of windshield wipers or as complex as a dying relationship, Crystal's music is a reflection into her everyday.

From a musical family, relatives were members of the wildly popular grassroots band 'the Bunkhouse Boys,' it was no surprise when Crystal showed signs of talent at an early age, making music from whatever she could get her hands on. Receiving her first full sized guitar at the age of nine, Crystal started writing songs with a maturity that at the same time both thrilled and terrified her parents. Most girls fill diaries with their inner musings, and tales of unrequited love; Crystal writes soul-baring songs.

Winning top honors in a national songwriting competition at the age of 16, Crystal enjoyed the spotlight, appearing a number of television and radio programs. Through these guest spots, her cheeky, good nature led to a second career behind the mike of her own radio program, as well as lending her vocals to many commercial projects.

Honing her songwriting and singing skills with a number of projects in recent years, Crystal has discovered her comfort zone as an artist. "I just stopped trying to be what people wanted me to be, and just was who I am." She says, "Things fell into place." Now performing as a solo artist, Beers is catching the eye of a number of industry big-wigs.

A full length cd is currently in the works.

Show #31

Are you back again? He has an obsession for
communicating his ideals ,trials, and the celebration of life through music.

After a decade of rocking Canadian pubs and fueling dance clubs overseas,
Noel took a step back and made the decision to concentrate on creating his own music
that had been calling him for years . The result of this new direction was his debut release
"Motion" ( released in 2002). His songs "Sleep" and "Every once in awhile" received radio
air play throughout southern BC and beyond . As well, the song"the last to know" won a
licencing deal through www.makeastar.com and has been placed on The Best of
Makeastar.com's Vol III compilation CD that will soon be available in Wherehouse, FYE,
Coconuts Music, Strawberries, Spec's,Planet Music, and Saturday Matinee stores nationwide.
Most recently, Noel, placed 7th out of 265 bands which has given him a coveted spot on
the 99.9 Sun FM and The Center For Arts and Technology's " the best of the Okanagan"
compilation. This CD will feature Noel's slated single from his upcoming CD
" something about me's changed" .

Now ,almost Two years after the release of Motion , Noel brings his latest project " Change"
to the table. An eleven song Pop/Rock/Country crossover CD. "Change basically sums up
what I've gone through this whole project. Getting married." says Noel."...The loss of my
Grandfather ,and coming to terms with personal problems and triumphs". "... I know it's all a
part of life but being able to express this through song has been a extraordinary process, I
know others will relate to what i'm saying in here"... "I've also changed the way I write ,
record and produce my music . I've upgraded my whole studio and unlike my first record, let go of some of the control by inviting other musicians to play parts" .
This time around,Noel has combined all the eclectic sounds from "Motion" with his own vision by concentrating on developing his own sound ."To sum it all up," Noel says. "Music off of this CD can be described as Pop Roots Music with songs and vocal styles compared to artists such as John Mayer , Keith Urban, and Jason Mraz". All in all Noel Wentworth's "Change" is a feel good Pop rock album with plenty of hope, fun ,and thought to go around. -

Show #26

It is fuckin hot in the studio today kids, Good thing we have some scorching tunes to go with the heat. Their explosive live performances and unique approach to the music make them stand out head and shoulders above the competition. Hailing from the small island community of Estral Beach, MI, the band consists of six members: two vocalists- Andy Loy and Chris King, two guitar players- Ryan Sonak and Kevin Miller, bass player Jeremy Shown and drummer Sean Belcher. Since the band came together in 1999 they have never changed any members- a tribute to their dedication. Influences on the band vary widely from member to member, most notably AC/DC, Thrice, Stone Temple Pilots, Helmet, even celtic folksongs- and it shows in the music. "I don't want to pigeonhole our band into a specific genre, says vocalist Andy Loy, "We just want to get our music in front of as many kids as possible and let them decide what we are."

The Featured Artist Show

Hello my lost little podsafe black sheep and welcome to the "best music podcast on the planet." Today we have a special show for you. We have taken our first 7 featured artist and put them all into one show. The point of this is I want you to listen to the show and then vote for your favorite artist by either posting a comment here on the blogpage or by emailing me at podpyrate@yahoo.com. I will keep the voting open for at least a week.
When all is said and done, the act with the most votes will have an entire future Pod Pyrates podcast dedicated to them. The plan is to play extra tracks, do and interview , give away free swag, etc. So listen then go vote. Good luck to all the artists. Dont forget to subscribe to the show through itunes. Here are the band links and songs in order of being played.
One click subscription

The Cool Waters Band
Dont Forget Where You Came From
Retrograde It's Over Now
Sophia Swept Back
Gidgets Ga Ga Hit by a Train
The Rantings of Eva Still Holding On
Granian Mark my Words
Winston Bottom of the World

Show #24 The PunkCast

I've got something a little different today children.
A whole show dedicated to punk rock. When frontman Ryan Hauschild began channeling their emotionally powerful songs, an electricity surged through the crowd leading the nation's top music magazine to give the band it's highest praise. "Rocked us so hard we peed our pants," wrote Chart Magazine. "[Winston is] progressing well towards world domination."

Soon after their CMW show, the Vancouver band signed a distribution deal with Maplenationwide to release their critically acclaimed debut album, Passengers. Good news for their growing collective of fans who made Passengers one of the top-selling CDs on MapleMusic.com shortly after the online music retailer began selling it in January 2004.

Founded by singer/songwriter Ryan Hauschild, Winston has been an underground favorite of commercial music programmers since they recorded their debut CD last year. Their song "Love It Up and Fell" hit #1 at rock radio station 100.3 The Q and went on to become the station's #3 song of the year. Vancouver's rock station 99.3 The Fox showcased Winston on its 2003 Seeds album, a compilation CD of the city's best unsigned bands. Music critics for The Province newspaper also recognized their talents, and listed Winston as one of the top 10 local bands, alongside established recording artists Hot Hot Heat and The New Pornographers.

Named for the lead character from George Orwell's novel 1984, Winston is Ryan Hauschild on vocals, guitars and piano, guitarist Lanny Hussey, drummer Robbie Watkins, and bass guitarist Tony Kerr. This powerful combination is an exceptional blend of songwriters and musicians who explore new levels of sound and song construction.

The group's singles "Rock (if you need it)" and "Lonely" (US single) create worlds unto themselves with a rich and delicate blend of melody and harmony. Winston's hook-filled songs are eccentric-yet-accessible, luring listeners in with solid rhythms and innovative guitar lines that do more than just showcase "the radiant/inspiring presence of singer/songwriter Ryan Hauschild," according to Robert Thompson, music critic, The Kings of A&R, New York, New York.

Catch Winston this fall as they tour in support of their debut album, Passengers.

Website
http://www.winstonmusic.com

Discography
My Fix EP- 2001
Passengers LP - 2003

Made it to show #20

I also made it back from Philadelphia in one piece. It is used to describe so many different kinds of artists that the true meaning of the word becomes unclear. "Pop" means "popular" ultimately and there is only one reason why any music becomes popular and that is because that music makes a true connection with its audience. Chicago band GIDGETS GAGA is better than most at making this connection. Their sound is a heady mix of all that has come before and all that is yet to be. Echoes of classic British Invasion pop, Nirvana, and The Replacements can be detected, along with the bands' own take on what it takes to make a 3-minute song matter. They are about punk rock energy and timeless pop melodicism. They are new yet instantly familiar in that "this is my new favorite song" kind of way that true fans live for. GIDGETS GAGA is comprised of guitarist/vocalist Mike Flores and drummer Luke Smith. They are a band in the truest sense and need no one else to help them get their point across. From the straight up power pop of "Offer You Can't Refuse" to the indelible hook of "Sanctuary" (both from their EP "Don't Boris" ) GIDGETS GA GA tell the world a story of life, love, loss, and rock and roll as they see it. They have spread their word from every major stage in Chicago and are poised to break out to the world at large. They are running on drive, heart, and a belief in their own destiny. Soon, the world may find itself destined to hear GIDGETS GA GA blasting out over the airwaves and taking their rightful place amongst the most popular acts in rock and roll.

GIDGETS GA-GA bonds the razor edge of alternative rock to a radio-ready pop sensibility. Emerging from
the frozen avenues of Chicago, the band generates
considerable head via a blazing energy of pulse pounding tempos.Guitarist/vocalist Mike Flores' swirling, kaleidoscopic fretwork accompanies husky, sandpaper vocals. He's supported by a pillar of rhythm, zealous bass lines and kinetic drumming, as three players interlock with assertive chemistry.Their four song EP, Don't Boris, is an introduction etched in sharp melodies and memorable choruses. The first track, "Lullaby," delivers an ironic one-two punch of tender words spoken behind a propulsive,guitar-driven theme. A lyrical promise beckons on "Offer You Can't Refuse",while a neo-psychedelic guitar drives "Sanctuary" with the intriguing couplet, "Ferris wheels and toe-nail rings/Are still the things that bring me down." Finally, the band plays homage to pink-haired punkette prowling a hard-hearted boulevard on "Streetwalker."In a prefabricated, test-marketed and modulated world, a Midwestern band with grit, spirit and musicality converges into a tight triangle.GIDGETS GA GA is the genuine deal.

BEN-BASS/BACK UP VOX
Ben Eisen grew up in the sleepy college town of Appleton,Wis. From day one music was in his blood. His father would constantly play Neil Diamond, Leonard Cohen, and The Platters and his mother taught him to rock out with The Beatles, The Who, and The Stones.
At age 8, Ben was introduced to the viola, which he played through high school. Somewhere along the line, he was handed a guitar and taught himself some chords. Having realized his destiny as a musical sideman from years of viola, he naturally gravitated towards the bass.
Having played in countless bands, including a stint as John Entwistle in a Who tribute band during his five year sabbatical in L.A., Ben headed back to the Midwest and instantly fell in love with the sounds of gidgets ga ga. After a killer audition, Ben secured his spot as bassist/vocalist extraordinaire.

LUKE DRUMS/CYMBALS
Luke Smith (pronounced Smyth) is a south suburban Illinois native who grew up in a family of six and was touted Baby Ringo of the bunch.Luke was coerced by his older brothers to play the bass, which he did reluctantly. However, Luke was no easy study, so his brothers decided to teach him how to play the drums instead.Luke fell in love with the new transition into drums and by seventeen he was playing in various clubs even though he was under age at the majority of venues that he played at.Along his musical journey he grabbed skills from his influences like Lars Ulrich and Tommy Lee until the fateful day that his sister played "Off Broadway" which caused him to shift influences to the drum stylings of Ken Hark. This set the path for his venture with the trio Gidgets Ga Ga where he instantly became a natural fit.

MICKEY GUITAR/VOX
Michael Flores is a Midwest native-born musician with rock and roll in his blood. He grew up listening to a variety of musical genres at a very early age. At the age of six he was battling a bout of Beatle mania fever that he has never fully recovered from.He picked up several instruments in his musical youth including drums and bass and eventually settled on the guitar. Michael is a self-taught musician and has appeared with various garage bands in his elementary school days where he carved his musical style and skillful techniques. In no time he had penned his own retro pop style and crafty songs that are now known as the infectious sound of Gidgets Ga Ga. Michael enjoys being the front man for the band and performs his role on a full-time basis.

Discography
self titled ep
don't boris ep
dreamer ep NEW!!
ep's available for purchase link below
http://www.cdbaby.com/all/gidgetsgaga
free streaming audio
http://www.gidgetsgaga.com/music.htm
VISIT OUR FAN SITE
http://www.myspace.com/gidgetsgaga
HEAR US ON XM SATELITTE RADIO CHANNEL 52 UNSIGNED!!

PROMO EXCHANGE OFFER

Hey gang, i just had a brain fart.
